News Corporation (NASDAQ: NWS,NASDAQ: NWSA,ASX: NWS,ASX: NWSLV), often abbreviated to News Corp., is the world's second-largest media conglomerate (behind The Walt Disney Company) as of 2008 and the world's third largest in entertainment as of 2009 . The company's Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Founder is Rupert Murdoch.

News Corporation is a publicly-traded company listed on the NASDAQ, with secondary listings on the Australian Securities Exchange. Formerly incorporated in South Australia, the company was re-incorporated into Delaware General Corporation Law after a majority of shareholders approved the move on November 12, 2004.

News Corporation's headquarters is at 1211 Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Ave.), in New York City, in the newer 1960s-1970s corridor of the Rockefeller Center complex.

Revenue for the year ended June 30, 2009 was US$30.423 billion with an operating income of US$-5.650 billion. Almost 70% of the company's sales come from its US businesses. On January 16, 2009 the Government Accountability Office reported that News Corp has 152 subsidiaries in low-tax or no-tax countries, one of four companies to have more than 100.

How Can I Become A News Broadcaster For A Big Broadcasting Corporation?
Q. I'm 15 where do I start?
Asked by karkar - Thu Jan 1 13:23:54 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You start with a lot of English & Journalism classes. School papers. Interning at a local news station. Writing for your local city paper. Stuff like that. You really need to have to have good researching skills and interviewing skills. Remember, you'll be on TV too at one point, so you'll have to be able to speak loud and clear in front of people. Drama classes might also help if you're afraid to be in front of people

With large diversified corporations and conglomerates like News Corporation and Sony....?
Q. What actually happens at their Headquarters, and where else do they manage companies from? I.e. not all of the companies they own e.g. Sony Entertainment and 20th Century Fox are based at the company's HQ, so what happens at the HQ, (as well as with any major corporation) and what happens at other bases? Are any subsidiaries based at the HQs of MNCs, or is it just all the superior financial, trading, marketing etc. stuff that happens at company HQs? Hope that all makes sense. Thanks in advance.

A. First your question makes sense to me. It all depends of the corporate culture of the group. At the very least the consolidated accounts (yearly, quarterly, ...) will be drawn up at the group's HQ, that is a legal obligation. The HQ will also support the group's executives. A company like Birkshire Hathaway (nyse BRKA) has 217.000 employees in the group but only 15 of them work in the HQ. Obviously they give the subsidiaries a lot of freedom. A company like Ford has extensive HQ where HR, finance, audit, marketing, ... are concentrated. A ford plant has to build the cars the HQ directs them to do. But branches like Volvo and Jaguar have there own HQ and are hence able to develop there own corporate culture.
